After the Euros

With excitement building towards Sunday's game between England and Spain, and after an uplifting month of football in Switzerland, Friday was a good day to release the 2025/26 fixtures for the WSL and WSL 2 as clubs in England look to get a boost in numbers coming through the turnstiles.

Arsenal's success in attracting supporters to their matches was highlighted at the end of last season after an average of nearly 29,000 fans per game came to watch the new European champions.

All Arsenal home fixtures this time around will be played at the Emirates Stadium and the club have produced a detailed guide to pricing structures for the new campaign, one in which they will also take part in the Fan Choice Pilot which allows for alcohol to be consumed at your seat in certain parts of the ground.

A new Category C price category has been introduced for particular matches, including the season opener against London City Lionesses on Saturday 6 September at 1.30pm.

That means early bird tickets purchased by the end of Friday 1 August start from £11.50 for adults with various discounts for concessions.

Liverpool also have an early bird offer in place for their first three home matches, including the Anfield clash with Everton on the opening weekend with tickets priced at £10 adults and £3.50 for juniors until August 8.

Two matches to look out for in the Combined Counties League, whose clubs are spread around south-east England, as the 2025/26 season gets underway.

Spelthorne Sports entertain Rising Ballers on Saturday 26th and have a 'Pay What You Want' initiative to get more people through the gate (season tickets for the year are just £50 as well.

One week later, on Saturday 2 August, Oxhey Jets have free admission (donations welcome) to their Community Day with loads of activities wrapped around the 3pm kick-off against Chalfont St Peter.

The 'Dale Way

'Who won the National League Cup in 2024/25?' One of the more niche football questions for a competition that has attracted a fair bit of negativity and is likely to pass by largely unnoticed again in the new season.

Not all National League clubs have opted to participate in 2025/26 but Rochdale are in and offer a really clear explanation on their website as to why they are doing so.

Their four matches at Spotland will all be free admission, including the opening fixture against Burnley on August 12 which the club are looking at making a daytime kick-off as a good summer holiday activity.

Up and Running

Footballers on a pitch

Always good to get to the first game of a new season, and to visit Handsworth FC after not getting the chance in 24/25.

The sun was out and 133 of us took the chance to catch a match at Olivers Mount where walking in from the road of the same name also took me past a cricket match and that nice juxtaposition of the great summer and winter sports together.

Handsworth are preparing for another season in the Premier Division of the Northern Counties East League (NCEL) and were good value for a 4-0 victory against Goole, relegated from the top flight last time out.

The hosts have a Sheffield derby against Hallam FC on Wednesday 9th at 7.45pm, adults £6, concessions £4 and kids go free.
