Didcot Town Football Club

The Railwaymen (could it be anything else given their location) have been proudly in existence since 1907, now playing at the Loop Meadow just a few hundred yards from their old Station Road ground but on the other side of the railway line.

Bashley FC are the visitors in the Evo-Stik Southern League on Saturday 12 March and, after an encouraging season which saw Didcot reach the First Round of the FA Cup, attracting 2,707 for the game against Exeter City, supporters are encouraged to come along and ‘Pay What You Want’ for the game.

Children go free with someone making a donation and anyone donating £5 or more will be entered into a prize draw.

Speaking to The Non-League Paper this Sunday, chairman John Bailey said: "We're asking for the game against Bashley that a donation big or small is made when supporters come through the turnstiles.

"If anyone pays £5 or more then they will be entered into a draw to win a range of things - including a pair or watches and also matchday hospitality for our remaining home games."

While Didcot still have outside hopes of making the play-offs at the end of the season, it has been a hugely difficult season for their opponents on 12 March with Bashley’s 6-0 defeat at the weekend making it 140 goals conceded in 30 matches and just one point gained in the whole campaign, a similar struggle to that of New Mills AFC.

FA Trophy & FA Vase Update

Only one issue is outstanding before the full semi-final line-up is settled for this season's FA Trophy after Saturday's last eight ties saw a couple of upset results.

Bognor Regis Town of the Ryman Premier League and Nantwich Town of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League (both at step 3 of the pyramid) defeated Conference National sides Torquay United and Dover Athletic respectively.

They will be joined in the semi-finals by Grimsby Town and the winners of this week's replay between FC Halifax and Gateshead.

In the FA Vase, Morpeth Town continued the fine record of Northern League clubs by reaching the semi-finals, defeating Bristol Manor Farm in a delayed tie on Saturday while Bowers & Pitsea were 4-0 winners at Kidlington in a quarter-final replay.

The big story in the competition, however, is the semi-final meeting between two sides with big names at Non-League level who reformed as 'Phoenix' teams last summer.

Hereford and Salisbury's quarter-final ties attracted a combined crowd of over 5,000 and they will meet over two-legs for a place at Wembley on the first ever Non-League Finals Day.

The FA, in a bid to boost interest in the two finals and hopefully keep them at the National Stadium for many years to come, have come up with the idea which will see both games played on Sunday 22 May, the FA Vase final at 12:15pm and the FA Trophy final at 4:15pm with supporters able to pass in and out of the stadium to see a host of exhibitions and examples of the FA's work in the wider game.

Tickets are priced at £25 for Adults, £10 for Concessions and just £1 for Under-16's with further reductions for groups.

A Salisbury versus Hereford final would probably have been an ideal scenario but the presence of at least one of them at Wembley will produce a larger than normal crowd for the Vase side of things.

Add in the two Trophy finalists and, hopefully, a good number of neutrals and the day should prove a success.

Thanks, as always, to The Non-League Paper for being the best place to get results and fixtures from for the Pyramid. Out every Sunday, this week's edition has been expanded to 56 pages for the same price of £1.50 and it is always interesting to see how quickly the team put together all of the various reports and results from Saturday's games in time to hit the newsagents the following morning.

The Yearly Article on Stoke City!

And no apologies for doing so because while other clubs only seem to be waking up to the possibility of keeping prices as low as possible given the income they have coming in from television, that has been part of the Stoke story since promotion to the Premier League.

For the ninth consecutive season, Season Card prices have been frozen for the 2016/17 campaign with Adult tickets available from £294, 10,000 seats available between £344 and £359 and a number of offers available for younger supporters.

Speaking to the official club website, chief executive Tony Scholes said: "Whilst the cost of following football has been a major talking point in recent weeks, affordability is an issue that has been fundamental to us for many years.

“We feel very strongly that no-one should miss out on the opportunity to watch us in action at the Britannia Stadium because of cost."

Buy a Programme and Watch for Free at The Nomads

Gap Connah's Quay Nomads host Newtown AFC in the Welsh Premier League this coming Saturday, 27th February at 2:30pm.

The league splits into two sections for the final run-in and both of these sides are still in the hunt for a Europa League place, either by finishing second (TNS looking good for another title) or via the play-offs which take place between the teams finishing third to sixth.

Admission to the Deeside Stadium on Saturday will be free with the purchase of a programme, thanks to the Nomads for letting me know about this on Twitter.

A busy period at Ewood Park, host to an FA Cup 5th Round tie against West Ham United on Sunday, continues on Tuesday evening when Luton Town are the visitors for an FA Youth Cup quarter-final, kick-off 7pm.

It is a very busy time of year, especially the further down the divisions you go as teams are catching up with matches postponed due to the weather or commitments in cup competitions.

UEFA Under-17 European Championship

England will have home advantage in their qualifying group for the UEFA Under-17 European Championship having been drawn alongside Ukraine, Turkey and Finland.

The Young Lions take on Turkey at Chesterfield FC (Thursday 24 March, 7pm), Finland at Leek Town FC (Saturday 26 March, 3pm) and Ukraine at Burton Albion FC (Tuesday 29 March, 7pm) with tickets available from the respective host clubs.

Bring City Home – Worcester City FC

Currently playing their National League North ‘home’ matches at Kidderminster’s Aggborough ground, Worcester City FC and the Worcester City Supporters Trust are continuing their battle to return the club to Worcester in the face of what they see as a lack of support from Worcester City Council./
Reduced entry prices are in place for the visit of FC United of Manchester on Saturday 5th March, 3pm with the aim of showing how much potential support there is for a move back to Worcester, where over 4,000 fans watched the final game at St Georges Lane in April 2013.
Adult entry will be £10, Concessions £5 and Under-16’s £1.
It’s a good fixture to do this for. Not only will FC United bring a sizeable contingent of supporters but they are also the ultimate model for Worcester to aim for, supporter-owned and run and having financed and built their own stadium at Broadhurst Park.

Children Go Free to the Women’s FA Cup Final

Having successfully staged the Women’s FA Cup Final for the first time at Wembley last year, this year’s showpiece event will again take place at the National Stadium on Saturday 14 May.

And, in a bid to top the 30,000+ crowd from 2015, Adult tickets are priced at £15 for the game, Concessions (OAP/Student) are £5 and up to four children can attend for free with a paying adult.

FA director of football development and participation Kelly Simmons told the Football Association website: "By working in partnership with (sponsors) SSE to offer free entry to children, we hope it encourages more schools, families and groups to come to Wembley and be part of one of the showpiece events of the season."

The competition is currently at the Fourth Round stage with the next set of ties taking place on Sunday 28 February and Durham WFC are offering admission for just £1 to their home game against Charlton Athletic.

That’s two articles in two days with positive things to say about the FA after the announcement of Non-League Finals Day at Wembley on Sunday 22 May and the governing body have also announced that their strong financial position at present has enabled them to reduce FA Cup Final tickets by £5 across all price points.

FA Non-League Finals Day

Nearly 850 clubs have competed in either the FA Vase or FA Trophy this season, all of them starting out on their journey with the prospect of a Wembley final the ultimate prize.

The Non-League game has fought hard to see the finals of both competitions remain at the National Stadium so it is pleasing to see that The FA are trying to breathe new life into them with the first ever Non-League Finals Day.

On Sunday 22 May, Wembley will host the FA Vase final at 12:15pm and the FA Trophy final at 4:15pm with supporters able to pass in and out of the stadium to see a host of exhibitions and examples of the FA's work in the wider game.

Tickets are priced at £25 for Adults, £10 for Concessions and just £1 for Under-16's with further reductions for groups.

Thanks to the excellent
London Football Guide for originally pointing me in the direction of this story.

£10 Tickets as Reading Host West Brom in FA Cup

West Bromwich Albion, having just squeaked past Peterborough United on penalties in their FA Cup 4th Round replay on Wednesday night, visit Reading on Saturday 20th February in the last 16 of the famous old competition.

The Royals had already announced that ticket prices for whoever they hosted at the Madejski Stadium would be £10 Adults and £5 for all Concessions, the third time they have had those prices in place in the FA Cup this season.

The Baggies themselves charged a maximum of £10 for their home ties against Bristol City and Peterborough in Rounds Three and Four and a large travelling support will be making their way down to this one.

Just four days later, on Tuesday 23rd February, Reading host Rotherham United in the Championship and there are also reduced prices in place for this 'TFI Tuesday' fixture. Affordable Football on Twitter

The Twitter page is where I try and highlight all of the ticket offers and promotions that I come across and is also where clubs and other users kindly let me know of anything they see.

This week, for instance, there have been tweets about £1 admission at Durham Women FC in the next round of the FA Cup, international action at Greenock Morton and reduced FA Trophy prices at Macclesfield Town.

Sheffield FC Ladies

As the Ladies’ arm of the World’s oldest club, Sheffield FC Ladies made history of their own in 2015 when they became the first ever side to be promoted to the Women’s Super League.

Having won the FA Women’s Premier League Northern Division, Sheffield defeated Southern champions Portsmouth in a play-off to be included in the WSL2 line-up for 2016.

The transition to the summer game has meant quite a break from competitive action but they tuned up for the new campaign with a 5-1 victory against Leicester City WFC last week.

And season tickets for the new campaign at the Home of Football Stadium are now on sale, priced at £32 Adult, £16 Concessions (Under-16 and Over-65’s), £38 for one Adult and one Under-16 and £70 for two Adults and two Under-16’s.

Season tickets permit entry to all Sheffield FC Ladies' home fixtures in the FA Women's Super League, the Continental Tyres Cup, and the SSE Women's FA Cup and come with a number of additional benefits.

Reduced Prices at Hartlepool United This Week

After their 'great escape' from the League Two relegation zone last season, Hartlepool United are again involved in a scrap for Football League survival with two big home matches this week against their rivals in the bottom six.

Hartlepool are currently one place and four points above the drop zone although postponements mean they do have games in hand on all of the teams around them.
Stevenage (currently 19th) are the visitors on Tuesday night before Yeovil (21st) make the long journey north on Saturday.

As they did for some crucial fixtures last season, Hartlepool have made the decision to reduce admission prices late in the day in a bid to boost the numbers coming through the Victoria Park turnstiles.

That means Adults will pay £12 and Concessions £6 for each of this week's games with chief executive Russ Green telling the official club website: "Our fans have stuck with us through some testing times and we want to make sure we reward them for that loyalty and help them out during busy periods like this."

Both offers are open to away supporters as well.

AFC Rushden & Diamonds

Currently sitting top of the Southern League Division One Central, AFC Rushden & Diamonds are continuing their progress back up the footballing ladder since the club was re-formed by supporters in 2011 after the demise of Rushden & Diamonds FC.

This is their first season at Step 4 of the pyramid after clinching the United Counties Premier Division title in 2014/15.

Admission prices for the current season at the Dog & Duck ground (the former home of Rushden & Diamonds FC is currently the subject of debate - as a recent BBC article shows) were decided on by members with prices set at £8 Adults, £5 Concessions and free for Under-16 members and Under-8's.

But, for the visit of Barton Rovers on Saturday 5th March, admission (for non-season ticket holders) will be 'Pay What You Want'.

West Ham Ladies at Upton Park

As part of the final season of celebrations at Upton Park, West Ham United Ladies are aiming to attract a big crowd through the gates of the Boleyn Ground when they entertain Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Women's Premier League on Tuesday 8th March at 7:45pm.

Tickets are priced at £5 Adults and £1 Children and are available online or at the turnstiles on the night.

Everton Ladies (The Second Time This Week!)

I wrote a short piece earlier in the week about Everton Ladies as they are offering free admission to Sunday’s FA Cup tie against Stoke City. Supporters need to register online for their ticket, otherwise matchday admission is £6 and £3.

And, season tickets are on sale for the 2016 campaign at a very reasonable £30 Adults, £15 Concessions and Children (Under-16) and £70 for a family of four (2 adults, 2 Children).

A minimum of 10 games will be guaranteed with your season ticket as WSL2, FA Women’s Cup and Continental Cup matches are included and anyone buying will also gain free admission to Everton men’s Under-21 fixtures at either Goodison Park or Southport’s Merseyrail Community Stadium.

Update: Hitchin Town, Inverness Caley Thistle

Hitchin Town held a 'Pay What You Want' game against Frome Town recently with the aim of kick-starting the club's new Floodlight Fund.

Secretary Roy Izzard, in one of his weekly updates on the club website, wrote recently that a season's best league crowd of 572 had come through the Top Field gates and that many of those paid more than the usual admission prices.

This enabled £1,500 to be transferred to the Floodlight Fund after the deduction of the budgeted match expenses and another 'Pay What You Want' game may be in the offing before the end of the season.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle, meanwhile, say they are ‘pleased’ with the reaction to their ‘Pay What You Can’ game against Partick Thistle recently.

An attendance of 3,556 was over 800 more than the last time the two teams met at 3pm on a Saturday in Inverness.

Commercial Manager Iain Auld told the official club website: "The data from this, and other initiatives, will allow us to better understand how many more Caley Thistle fans are out there just now and how much they are willing to pay.

"We'll run that information alongside what we know of existing fans and then look to see what we can do to increase attendances on a more regular basis without jeopardising the club's financial position."

Five Cup Ties For A Tenner Or Less This Weekend

A busy weekend with plenty of football to get you out and about.
Sunderland Under-21’s welcome their PSV Eindhoven counterparts to the Stadium of Light on Friday evening for a Premier League International Cup quarter-final tie. Admission to the 7pm kick-off is priced at £3 Adults and £1 for Over-65’s and Under-16’s.
A quartet of FA Vase 5th Round ties are still to be played, after some less than favourable weather over the past couple of months and Berkhamsted FC are expecting their biggest crowd since the formation of the current club in 2009.
Morpeth Town are making the journey down from the North-East to visit the Comrades with admission priced at £6 Adults, £3 Seniors and no charge for accompanied young children.
Grimsby Town have reduced all prices for their FA Trophy tie at home to Havant & Waterlooville on Saturday at 3pm. Adults can gain entry for £10, Concessions £5 and it is Kids for a Quid at Blundell Park.
The Welsh Cup has reached the Fourth Round stage and it is no surprise that the game between Barry Town United and The New Saints has been chosen for live television coverage on Saturday at 5:15pm.
As a very detailed preview on the official Barry website explains, the match marks a resumption of a rivalry that once took place at the top end of the domestic game in Wales but which looked to have ended when Barry dropped out of the league.
They are now a non-profit, community owned club and looking to impress on the big stage once more ahead of a possible return to the Welsh Premier League in the near future.
Admission to Jenner Park is priced at £5 Adults with concessions available for Seniors, Students and Children.
WSL2 clubs enter the Women’s FA Cup at the Third Round stage this coming Sunday with Oxford United aiming to avoid an upset at Brighton & Hove Albion.
This tie takes place at the Sussex County FA Headquarters at 2pm with admission priced at £3 Adults and £1 for Under-16’s and Brighton & Hove Albion season ticket holders.
The FA Website has details of all the other scheduled fixtures in the Vase, Trophy and Women's Cup this weekend.

Free Football at Everton Ladies on Sunday

The FA Women’s Cup continues this coming Sunday and the Third Round stage sees the entrance to the competition of FA WSL2 clubs, including newcomers Sheffield FC who will host Leicester City.

All-WSL ties take place between London Bees and Durham and between Watford and Millwall Lionesses.

Everton Ladies, meanwhile, host Stoke City Ladies at the Select Security Stadium in Widnes, kick-off 2pm, and supporters can claim free admission (saving £6 or £3 on matchday prices) by registering in advance online.

Two other snippets from the Women's game, firstly West Ham United Ladies will be looking to break the league attendance record when they take on Tottenham Hotspur under the lights at Upton Park on Tuesday 8th March at 7:45pm.

Tickets for the game are priced at £5 Adults and £1 Under-16's.

And England's senior team will be in European Championship qualifying action against Belgium at Rotherham United's New York Stadium on Friday 8 April at 7:55pm.

Tickets for the game are priced at £5 Adults, £2.50 for Children and £10 for a Family (2 Adults, 2 Children).

Silsden AFC

The wonderfully nicknamed ‘Cobbydalers’ currently ply their trade in the North West Counties League and are proudly back on home soil at the Angel Telecom Stadium, after a short spell of groundsharing when they moved up to their current level in the pyramid, and with excellent new facilities in place such as a £1.2m sport club and the ‘1904’ Lounge which is named for the year of the club’s formation.

For the remainder of the 2015/16 season, Bradford City season ticket holders will be given free admission at Silsden AFC when the Bantams are away from home, starting this coming Saturday (February 6th) when Alsager Town are the visitors.

It’s a generous offer, and a smart one too given the vast constituency that is the Bradford City season ticket holder base. I wrote back in the summer about the club’s aim of getting 15,000 on board for 2015/16, a figure that was comfortably beaten.
