A week's holiday by the seaside enabled me to take in Tuesday night's pre-season friendly against Marske United at the Turnbull Ground, home of Whitby Town FC,
The picture shows the main stand, of which the club are justly proud (and which gets a mention on the open-top bus tour of Whitby) while the proximity to the sea means that seagulls are an ever-present throughout the 90 minutes and just occasionally seem in danger from a hefty clearance.
Whitby tuned up for the forthcoming Evo-Stik Northern Premier League season with a 2-0 victory in front of 126 spectators and have two more home friendlies scheduled, against Bishop Auckland this coming Saturday at 3pm and against Scarborough Athletic on Saturday 6th August at 1pm.
